2018 MAD Travel Fellowship
Call for projects organizer
Founded by Chinese architect Ma Yansong in 2004, MAD Architects is a global architecture firm committed to developing futuristic, organic, technologically advanced designs that embody a contemporary interpretation of the Eastern affinity for nature. With its core design philosophy of Shanshui City – a vision for the city of the future based in the spiritual and emotional needs of residents – MAD endeavors to create a balance between humanity, the city, and the environment.
Description
MAD Travel Fellowship was initiated by Ma Yansong in 2009. Each year, the program will sponsor college and university students for their overseas traveling with their own research topics. During the past 7 years, the program has sponsored 35 students from universities across Mainland China for their international architecture travels to Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.
MAD believes it is only through travel – the visceral experience of interacting with, and being influenced by, different spaces – that one can begin to understand ideas of context and thereby gain a deeper insight into the practice of architecture.
This 8th edition will support the travels of five undergraduate/graduate architecture students from across globe so that they can conduct field work and further research into their architecture topics of interest.
