Architecture PPC IMAGINARIUM Award
Call for projects organizer
Established in 1892, PPC has tracked the growth and development of South Africa, producing the cement used to build many of the country's iconic landmarks and construction projects, including the Union Buildings, Gariep Dam, Van Staden's River Bridge, Gautrain, Medupi Power Station, and Cape Town's Green Point Stadium. A truly African success story, PPC reflects the strength of its people, products, and services. As it expands into the rest of Africa, PPC will deploy its sustainable business model - one built to last - and continue to work towards being the brand of choice in its chosen marketplace.
Description
The purpose of the PPC Imaginarium Architecture awards is to promote the use of Portland cement-based concrete in creating more sustainable environments and communities. The category's programme focuses on stimulating innovative thinking and raising awareness around the critical environmental issues associated with contemporary architecture, while simultaneously questioning the relevance of existing typologies and sustainability strategies in dealing with built/un-built/waste contexts.
Students, candidate professionals, and recently qualified SACAP (South African Council for the Architectural Profession) registered professionals are encouraged to submit a design investigation. Through their submission, entrants must show a detailed resolution, which illustrates an innovative and sustainable solution, utilising a Portland cement-based concrete application. Entries will be judged on the development of a holistic sustainability strategy, the innovative use of Portland cement-based concrete, the design resolution, and the clarity in the communication of the design intention.
The judges' decision is final and no correspondence with the organisers/judges will be allowed. It is in the sole and final discretion of the organisers/judges to cancel any entry on the grounds of illegality, infringement of any third party rights, or a transgression of the constitutional right of freedom of expression.
