Call For Entry: Themeless — The Captured Image
Call for projects organizer
The Chateau Gallery (TCG) is a contemporary hybrid art and studio space based in the heart of historic Old Louisville. Throughout its many lives, the monolithic building served as the estate of a tobacco baron, a funeral parlor, The Kentucky College of Barbering, an unlicensed childcare center, a "cocaine dealer's palace," and a law office. TCG is an avant-garde colossus of brick, mortar, wooden beams, and traditional white gallery walls — occupying a time and place between the antique and the contemporary. TCG's ethos is to transcend borders and broadcast multi-faceted viewpoints through artistic, ideological, and philosophical exchange.
Description
Themeless is an exhibition exploring the concept of “themelessness,” a condition or state lacking a specific theme or subject matter. In a themeless context, the interpretation and purpose of the captured image may vary from viewer to viewer, making the art of themelessness more subjective and open to contemplation. The captured image is the visual representation of a scene or subject that has been recorded through the lens and preserved on a sensor or film to capture the fleeting moment in a photograph, juxtaposing the ephemeral fragments of the scene with its temporary and tangible nature in the corporeal world. What does the concept of themelessness bring to your mind's eye?Timeline
