"Sustainable" or "environmentally-safe" or "eco-friendly" furnishings are made and distributed in ways that protect our planet. SFC members take immediate steps to minimize carbon emissions, waste stream pollutants, un-recyclable content and primary materials from unsustainable sources from any product platform under their control. We are proud to recommend these companies to you during your search for healthy, pro-planet furnishings.

Description

The Sustainable Furnishings Council is now accepting entries for the 2017 #GetYourGreenOn design competition, a program that recognizes and awards sustainable and healthful choices in residential interiors.
Both SFC-member and non-member interior designers and firms are eligible to enter the competition, which has garnered attention on social media, during national home furnishings markets, and in both industry and consumer media.

Residential interior design projects completed between April 1, 2016, and March 31, 2017, qualify for this year’s competition. Entries must feature at least one product from an SFC-member manufacturer or supplier. Entrants must take SFC’s pledge to ask, "What's it made of?"

Complete #GetYourGreenOn entry instructions can be found at http://bit.ly/2peJml2. Deadline for entries is Fri., June 23.

Both a winner and a finalist can be named in three categories, each with two total-project-cost classifications. In addition, the #GetYourGreenOn competition awards a grand prize, the Design Excellence Award, to a single entrant.

The 2017 #GetYourGreenOn categories are:

Shared Spaces — $30,000 and Under

Shared Spaces — $30,001 and Above

Private Spaces — $30,000 and Under

Private Spaces — $30,001 and Above

Outdoor Spaces — $30,000 and Under

Outdoor Spaces — $30,001 and Above

SFC’s What’s it made of? initiative was launched with the goal of increasing transparency in supply chains. The initiative includes a supply chain questionnaire  entrants can use to seek information about the presence of harmful substances such as flame retardant chemicals, fluorinated stain treatments, antimicrobials, PVC and volatile organic compounds.

“Designers are in an ideal position to move the needle in pollution prevention, supporting healthy environments both inside and outside the home,” said Susan Inglis, SFC executive director.“ Get your green on gives designers a way to show off their commitment, as well as their design skills. We are excited about the difference the'What's it made of?' query can make, and we’re very pleased to be offering tools and information to help the design community.”

The 2017 #GetYourGreenOn Design Excellence recipient, category winners and category finalists will be announced in the fall. They join the ranks of the 2016 victors, who were announced last fall during High Point Market at the SFC’s 10th anniversary celebration.
