Description
ABOUTiJungle 2017 Illustration Awards is a competition to celebrate the world´s art of illustration. Located in Europe, it is opened to illustrators, agencies, representatives, students and teachers all over the world. iJungle 2017 has 7 categories: Book, Editorial, Comics, Commercial, New Talent (Student), Self-Promotion and Video Games Art. A jury of some of the world´s best illustrators and art directors will select the winners. All winning entrants will be exhibit in the iJungle 2017 Illustrational Annual! iJungle 2017 Illustration Awards will also distribute the following awards:
- Best of the best;
- Gold medal for each category (7 gold medals);
Up to 20 Merit Awards for each category (Up to 140 Merit Awards).
CATEGORIES
Book
Illustration works commissioned in the form of printed and digital picturebooks for children, youth and adults, book covers for text books, inside illustrations, interactive books, works of fiction and non-fiction, zines, artist books.
Editorial
Illustration works commissioned for printed and digital magazines, newspapers, fanzines, other publications. Includes illustrations for articles, news items, cartoons, political satire, reports and others.
Commercial
Illustration works commissioned in the form of printed or digital advertising, merchandising, posters, greetings cards, annual reports, packaging, brochures, leaflets, calendars, toys, vinyl toys, plush toys, CDs, DVDs, record sleeves, stamps, board games, animations or websites and others, which have been commercially commissioned.
New Talent (Student)
Open to all illustration students in all countries.
Self-Promotion
Unpublished work, gallery art, personal or experimental work, commissioned but not published work by professionals)
Comics
Illustration works commissioned in the form of printed or digital comics and graphic novels.
Video Games Art
Most original visuals/art direction for games from all platforms: Mobile, Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo or PC. In Video game Art, you should send 10 screenshots that represent the main atmosphere, characters and scenery.
Jury
Sara Fanelli
Sara Fanelli was born in Florence, Italy. She came to London to study art and has been working there as a freelance designer and illustrator ever since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1995.
She has worked for a diverse range of clients internationally, dividing her time between her books and self-generated projects, and commercial illustration commissions.
Her clients include: The New Yorker, penguin Books, Faber and Faber, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, The Victoria and Albert Museum, BBC Worldwide, Ron Arad, Issey Miyake, The New York Times and the Royal mail. Sha as also written and illustrated a number of children´s books which have been published in many languages.
She has won several international awards including twice being the overall winner of the Victoria and Albert Museum Illustration Award and two D & AD Pencils.
Her work has been exhibited in venues all around the world including the Victoria and Albert museum, London, LÁrt a La Page, Paris, Galerie Anatome, Paris, Galleria D´Arte Moderna, Bologna, Biblioteca Nacional, Madrid, Katonah Art Museum, Tokyo, The Kyoto Isetan Museum and many others. She has been a member of AGI since 2000.
Recent projects include a new book for Tate Publishing untitled “Sometimes I think, Sometimes I am” with introductions by Marina Warner and Steven Heller and typography by Bruno Monguzzi. This is a book of images inspired by world literature.
In 2006 Sara Fanelli was commissioned to design a timeline (40 meters long) and four gallery entrances for the re-hanging of Tate Modern Permanent collection.
In 2006 she was elected an honorary RDI (Royal Designer for Industry), the first woman illustrator to receive this honor.

Feifei Ruan
Feifei Ruan is a Chinese illustrator and comic artist based in New York City. She studied visual storytelling and received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts. She was the Grand Prix winner of the Hiii Illustration International Competition 2015. Her work has also been recognized by Society of Illustrators, 3x3 Picture Book Show, and The Library of Congress.

Steve Simpson
With over 30 years experience, Steve Simpson is renowned for his hand lettered packaging design, whimsical characters and illustrated barcodes. His distinctive style, inspired by the arts & crafts movement, 50s advertising and folk art, has appeared on everything from a 1" postage stamp to a 200ft screen in Times Square. His work has adorned whiskey bottles and cough bottles, boardgames and board rooms, hot sauces and ceramic saucers!
Since 2008 Steve has won over 50 awards for both packaging design and illustration including Gold awards from the Association of Illustrators, Illustrators Guild of Ireland, the IDI and ICAD.
He's been an awards judge for Adobe, 3x3 and the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators and is also a founding member of the Illustrators Guild of Ireland and OFFSKETCH.
Steve has been a main stage speaker at OFFSET, OFFF and ICON as well as giving many talks and workshops across Europe.
Originally from Manchester, UK, Steve now lives in Dublin, Ireland.
