International Award On Scientific Illustration 2018

The National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC) and the Catalan Association of Scientific Communication (ACCC) are convening the sixth edition of the International Prize for Scientific Illustration and Nature, IIlustraciencia. Of this contest will be the 40 works related to science and nature that will be exhibited in the museum from October to December 2018. The contest is funded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MINECO) and the Spanish Foundation for the Science and Technology (FECYT) through its call for aid for the promotion of scientific culture and innovation.

The prize, which emerged in 2009 with the intention of supporting, rewarding and disseminating the work of professionals in scientific and naturalistic illustration, will once again bring together the participants’ illustrations, made between 2017 and 2018. The objective is to create a traveling exhibition It will be inaugurated at the MNCN and will visit other museums and cultural spaces bringing science closer to society. A virtual catalog of the exhibition will also be created and courses, workshops and parallel activities will be organized. Each category, scientific and naturalistic illustration, will receive a prize of 600 euros. One of the proposals will be chosen as the winner of the public vote and will receive an accrediting diploma.

The proposed works can be sent from April 23 to June 20, 2018 through the website www.illustraciencia.info. The jury will also select 40 works that will be published on the web on July 16, the date on which the voting of the public will begin, which will last until the 23rd of the same month. The two winners will be announced on July 24.
