THE AWARD:The International Finsa Award for Students of Architecture & Design aims to encourage and challenge students to explore and redesign the use of wood and other ecological and recyclable materials in construction. We believe that the future in construction should continue developing this way and know it is possible to achieve. The award considers the work of both teachers and students, all of whom will be acknowledged and awarded.
2017 EDITION:
This is the first edition of our contest where education is the focus. Students and teachers will have the task of building a school. We want the school to be a temporary building with the goal of being able to quickly install the building after any unfavorable situation to help prevent interruptions to learning. The school should have a capacity for 25 pupils. We believe learning is essential for future development and the world should continue providing better resources to those in need.
WHO:
We only accept students for our contest, you can work on your own or in a group of up to five. It is essential that you pick a teacher of your choice to guide your project. We believe that students with a broader knowledge in this growing industry are more attractive to employers as the world moves more 'green'.
ASSESSMENT:
Main areas of the project to be assesed:
Feasability: The project must be realistic and something which uses readily available materials.
Adaptability: Able cope with different situations and places where it will be installed.
Cost: Submissions should include a budget per m2.
Cultural implications: Must be respectful to any culture.
Jury
Simon Allford
From AHMM’s base in London Simon leads a studio that works in the UK and internationally, engaging public and private clients in the exploration of a particular architecture’s potential to offer delight as well as utility.
Simon works on a wide range of scales and typologies. Recent projects include Stratford residential master plan, The Angel, Tea and Yellow Buildings as well as Adelaide Wharf, the Saatchi Gallery and Chobham Academy. He is currently working on the new Google HQ at King’s Cross, The White Collar Factory at City Road, a new tower 240 Blackfriars, three mixed use projects on Regent Street for the Crown Estate, an academic building for the University of Amsterdam as well as large urban scale projects in London and America.
Simon is Chairman of the Architecture Foundation, a trustee of the Architecture Association Foundation, a visiting professor at The Bartlett and GSD Harvard.
He was recently Vice President for Education at the RIBA and a Chair of Design Review at CABE.

Pedro Feduchi
Doctor of architecture by Madrid Architecture School (E.T.S.A.M) as professor. Combining his academic activities with professional ones that are developed in his studio, including architecture and design Works.
In 1987 got the Roma History, Archeology and Fine Arts Scholarship for a residence course. Project Associate Professor since 1990, in Madrid Architecture School and Furniture Design in the Advanced Architectonic Projects Master (MPAA) since 2010.
In his professional studio are developed architecture works, building rehabilitation, monuments restoration and urban space design. He has work as exhibition curator and colaborated with important museums and cultural institutions. And also has a wide experience in furniture and interior design.

Berta Willisch
Berta is an architect and real estate developer living in NYC.
After working for Ian Simpson Architects in Manchester, Berta moved to London and joined Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, where over a 6 year period she worked on the Stirling Prize-nominated Angel Building for Derwent London and the award-winning 10 New Burlington Street for The Crown Estate.
Berta moved to NYC in 2014 to study Real Estate Finance at New York University and became interested in vertically integrated business models combining real estate development and architecture services. In 2015 Berta founded Fitzrovia LLC, a multidisciplinary consulting firm, and joined Avery Hall Investments, an up and coming architecture and development firm with a focus in Brooklyn real estate.
Berta is currently managing a $40m condominium development due for completion in 2018, as well as working on new acquisitions.
Berta has lectured at several universities in the UK and was part of the jury in Finsa's 2011 Student Competition.

Fernando Márquez
Born in Madrid in 1957. Bachelor of Architecture and Urban planning at the School of Architecture of Madrid in 1980.
In 1982 founded with Richard Levene El Croquis architecture and publishing office. Since then has been chief editor at El Croquis architecture magazine and the Biblioteca de Arquitectura, a collection of theory books and essays.
They inaugurated in 1999 the El Croquis Architecture Gallery , in El Escorial, as an exhibition place of the most significant projects under construction in Spain, exemplified in their models.
He published in 1990, with Richard Levene and Antonio R. Barbarin, the book Contemporary Spanish Architecture 1975 / 1990.
Professor of Department of Projects of the School of Architecture and Art of the European University of Madrid, was responsible, from 2000 to 2010, of teaching the subject "History of Architecture and Art of XX Century."
He has been invited to participate, over the years, in several courses, seminars and architectural juries.

Xavier Codina
Xavier is a Barcelona based architect and development practitioner. He was the Chair of ASF-Catalunya in 2009-2012 and also Chair of ASF-Spain. He has been a member of the Board of ASF-International for several years and would like to give continuity to the last years of engagement with the network. His experience in the field of International Cooperation started in 1992, when he began collaborating with ASF-Catalunya as both an on-field technician and an office volunteer. Since then, he has been involved in a range of different projects spanning housing, education, and health facilities in Nepal, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Ghana, both in cities as rural areas.
At the same time Xavier has also collaborated with the Local Cooperation unit of ASF-Catalunya, and is involved in communication and awareness-raising activities. He is a visiting lecturer at the Master’s course ‘Formal and Informal City in Developing Countries’ at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya (UPC). Has also participates in diverse classes, lectures or public presentations representing ASF during the lasts years.
