IPOTY creates new opportunities to showcase the best photographic work and introduce leading talents to the world of contemporary photography. We celebrate creativity and ambition, and we support artists to develop and present their work through competition.
Our annual competition is open to everyone, amateurs and professionals alike. The overall winners, category winners, and those who are commended will have their work showcased to a global audience by our media partners.
WHO MAY ENTER
IPOTY is open to all amateur and professional photographers worldwide. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age as of the date of entry.
HOW TO ENTER
To enter IPOTY please visit iphotographeroftheyear.com to register. Simply log onto the website and follow the online instructions to upload images from your computer. When your submission has been completed, you will get an e-mail confirmation.
FILE SIZES
Image files should be uploaded to the site as JPG with 1000 pixels along the longest length. Please do not include watermarks, borders or signatures on your entry.
CONTEST PRIZES
There are two Title Awards:
Professional category Grand Prize: 2500$ in cash
Amateur category Grand Prize: 1500$ in cash
Cash prizes will be paid in USD via PayPal. Any fees incurred for foreign currency transfers will be deducted from the winning amount.
JUDGING
Entries will be judged by nominated judges.A panel of experts in photography will each review all entries and select a group of winning entries on the basis of creativity, artistic merit, subject and style.
Individuals whose images are selected as award winners will be contacted between 15th January and 30th January 2018 and asked to provide a high resolution image of at least 2000px wide. This file will be used only to prove the ownership of the image.
COPYRIGHTS
Copyright of the images will remain at all times with the photographer.
USAGE RIGHTS
Images will be used strictly in connection to the awards and will not be used for any other marketing purposes other than to promote International Photographer of the Year.
WINNERS LIST
Winners’ names will be available online at iphotographeroftheyear.com no later than 11 February 2018.

Peter Braunholz (b. 1963) studied Music in Los Angeles as well as German and Film Studies in Frankfurt. 2010-14 he was curator and jury member at the Abisag-Tüllmann-Foundation in Frankfurt.

Tariq Dajani was born in England, Dajani spent his formative years growing up in both the Middle East and Europe, gaining an understanding and appreciation of different cultures and traditions. A passion for art and music lead him to explore various outlets for creative expression, until he eventually chose a career in photography.

FABRICE FOUILLET
Fabrice Fouillet is a French professional photographer based in Paris. He first studied sociology and ethnology, then photography at the Gobelins school in Paris, and specialized in still lifes. He currently lives in Paris and regularly works with many magazines, such as Vogue, Wallpaper, Numero, L’Express, Le Monde, The New York Times.

Julia Gunther (born in Berlin in 1979) graduated from the University of the Arts, London, UK, in 2003, with a BA in Film & Video Studies. First based in Berlin, London and now Amsterdam, she worked as a spark on feature films, tv shows and commercials. After a year in Cape Town working for a production company in 2008 she started shifting gears to concentrate solely on photography.

Marta Azevedo was born and raised in Rio Janeiro, Brazil, the daughter of a military father and stay-at-home mother. When she turned 18, her parents gave her a camera as a gift. She then decided to take some basic photography courses. Years later, she began to take photography more seriously. In 2003 she started the project Black Faces, influenced by her experience in the neighborhoods of Rio.

ERIK HIJWEEGE
Biography. Erik Hijweege (1963) worked as an advertising agency strategist for twelve years before deciding in 1998 to follow his heart and become a photographer. Since then he has been working on commissions and producing personal work. In 2004 he published Noir, a book of photographs offering a penetrating insight into the lives of the African SAN and albinos.

VINCENT FOURNIER
Vincent Fournier was born in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) in 1970 and grew up in France on the coast of Brittany. After undergraduate studies in Sociology and a Masters in Visual Arts (Montpellier 1994) he obtained the Diploma of the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles in 1997.

ELEONORA PECORELLA
Eleonora Pecorella is a photographer and art historian born in Rome in 1973. She received her BA and Master in Art History from Rome La Sapienza University. She worked few years in this field in Italy, before moving to London in 2008, where she exclusively focused on photography as her main interest and activity, studying photography at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

CHRISTOPH MORLINGHAUS
Christoph Morlinghaus is a German photographer now based in New York. He studied at Fachhochschule Dortmund, School of Photography & Design. In 1994 he received the Reinhard Wolf award and his work was included at the same exhibition in the Museum of Art & Commerce, Hamburg. Since then Christoph has gone on to work on prestigious international advertising campaigns, his clients including Lufthansa, British Airways, IBM, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Microsoft, Sony Playstation, Audi, Volkswagon and Nike.
