Manchester Metropolitan University (often referred to as Manchester Met, Man Met, or MMU) is a new, public university located in Manchester, England. The university originates from the Manchester Mechanics Institute[6] and the Manchester School of Design, which formed Manchester Polytechnic in 1970. Manchester Polytechnic then gained university status under the government's Further and Higher Education Act, becoming the Manchester Metropolitan University in 1992. Today, It is headquartered in the city of Manchester, with additional facilities in Cheshire.
Description
The Manchester Writing Competition offers the UK’s biggest literary awards for unpublished work, offered by the country’s most successful writing school. The Competition was established by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy in 2008 and has awarded more than £155,000 to writers. Each year two £10,000* prizes are awarded: the Manchester Poetry Prize for best portfolio of poems and the Manchester Fiction Prize for best short story. Designed to encourage and celebrate new writing across the globe, the competition is open internationally to new and established writers.There are two Prizes:
• Manchester Poetry Prize — entrants must submit a portfolio comprising a minimum of three and a maximum of five poems.
• Manchester Fiction Prize — entrants must submit a short story of up to 2,500 words in length.
All work must be written in English.
All work submitted for consideration can be on any subject, and written in any style or form, but must be the entrant's own original writing, and should not have published in print or have been broadcast on or before 31st December 2018.
