Description

A challenge to accelerate Native American filmmakers' careers

Submission Details

Native American and First Nations of Canada filmmakers are invited to submit their short documentaries, 7 minutes and under, to the Audience Awards Native American Doc Challenge. We also seek documentaries shot in 360. If you submit a 360, be sure to mark that your video is 360 when you upload your film.

Championed by Native American filmmaker and actor, Forrest Goodluck, an industry jury will judge the films and the top 8 films will screen at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in February 2018. The showcase of the top eight films will also screen at AudFest in LA in the Spring.

Filmmakers receive one All Access pass to BSDFF including all screenings, DocShop sessions and special events and one All Access pass to AudFest including all screenings, special events, and labs.

Additionally, during Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, the filmmakers will be apart of their Native Filmmaker Fellows seminar with leaders in the Indigenous filmmaking community and the film industry at large.

From the top 8 films, the jury will select the best documentary and award $1000 and 1 FilmStro soundtrack license for movies with up to a $1M budget worth $2,000.

Additionally, Audience Awards voting will run April 4-10, 2018. The most voted film wins $500 and 1 FilmStro soundtrack license for movies with up to a $1M budget worth $2,000.

We are currently gathering additional prizes, sponsors, mentors and distribution outlets for the top films. Our goal is to advance the careers of emerging and established Native American filmmakers.
