Call for projects organizer
POPPOSITIONS' 7th edition will take place in Brussels from 18 until 22 April 2018. POPPOSITIONS changes location every year and will announce soon where it will take place in 2018.
Description
POPPOSITIONS was established by Liv Vaisberg and Pieter Vermeulen in 2012 as a counterpoint to mainstream art fairs, and has grown to be the leading fair offering an alternative market for contemporary art.In the past six years, POPPOSITIONS has been dealing with questions of artistic agency, self-organisation, cynicism and criticality in order to shape its profile within the cultural and economic landscape. For the second edition in a row, Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk (The Office for Curating, NL) has been invited as the artistic director.
POPPOSITIONS is more than an art fair. It encourages new, experimental and innovative approaches to the art market. It is both a curated exhibition and an ongoing critical dialogue.
POPPOSITIONS strongly believes in a collaborative approach by working closely with galleries, project-spaces, artists, curators and collectors.
POPPOSITIONS attracts wide support from the art sector and benefits from extensive media coverage. With between a maximum of thirty exhibitors, the format allows participants to easily communicate and exchange with visitors. The exhibition gathers collectors, professionals and art lovers on a yearly basis.
POPPOSITIONS is:
Itinerant. It points up the ephemeral and transient aspect of art fairs, while highlighting different heritage buildings in Brussels.
Curated. The selection is based on artistic quality and relevance of the project to the open call. The selection is made by a panel of curators and art professionals.
Discursive. It acknowledges the crucial role of contemporary art fairs within the global market, all while seeking new, experimental ways of presenting art.
Inclusive. Participation is open to any kind of art space: commercial galleries, collectives, artist-run spaces, curatorial platforms and not-for-profit organisations.
