L’une des cinq Académies composant l’Institut de France, l’Académie des beaux-arts encourage la création artistique dans toutes ses expressions et veille à la défense du patrimoine culturel français. Elle poursuit ses missions de soutien à la création par l’organisation de concours, l’attribution de prix, le financement de résidences d’artistes et l’octroi de subventions à des projets et manifestations de nature artistique en France et à l’étranger. Constituée autour de l’idée de pluridisciplinarité, la Compagnie réunit cinquante-neuf membres répartis au sein de huit sections artistiques, seize associés étrangers et cinquante-neuf correspondants.
Description
Afin d'accompagner la création en son sein d'une section de photographie, l'Académie des beaux-arts a créé en 2007 un Prix de Photographie destiné à aider les photographes confirmés à réaliser un projet significatif et à promouvoir leur travail.
Ce concours a permis chaque année à un photographe confirmé de réaliser un projet d’envergure dans un esprit d’entière liberté quant aux thèmes ou à l’écriture photographique. En 2018, la douzième édition du Prix est marquée par une évolution significative : le prix devient biennal, permettant au lauréat de bénéficier de plus de temps pour réaliser son projet, restitué sous la forme d’une exposition à l’Académie A cette occasion, la dotation du prix est doublée, passant de 15 000 à 30 000 euros.

Prix sous la Coupole
$34 561- 15.000 euros lors de la remise du Prix sous la Coupole, lors de la séance solennelle de l’Académie des beaux-arts
- 15.000 euros lors de la présentation à mi-parcours de l’état d’avancement du projet photographique aux membres du jury.
- Le projet du lauréat devra être réalisé dans un délai de deux ans après l’attribution du prix afin de faire l’objet d’une restitution au Palais de l’Institut de France.
