Depuis 14 ans, la Fondation Wilmotte favorise la rencontre du patrimoine et de la création contemporaine à travers l’organisation du Prix W. Elle aide les jeunes architectes en organisant tous les deux ans un concours qui permet de les accompagner et de les sensibiliser à l'importance de la greffe architecturale.

Concours européen d'architectureLa Fondation d'entreprise Wilmotte renouvelle en 2008-2009 le concours Prix W afin de faire prendre conscience de l'importance de la greffe architecturale pour la préservation du patrimoine européen et son évolution dans le monde contemporain.
Le concours s'adresse aux étudiants et aux jeunes diplômés des écoles d'architecture européennes. Le thème du Prix W 2008-2009, la valorisation du site d'un château à Latina en Italie, propose une réflexion sur un patrimoine récent intégré dans un tissu urbain et paysagé.
Les prix et bourses sont décernés par un jury international composé de professionnels, d'architectes, d'artistes et de journalistes de renom.
Thème du concours
Le site de l'un des châteaux d'eau de Latina datant des années 1970, devra être valorisé. Un bâtiment de bureau de 2000m2 devra être projeté, donnant l'occasion aux candidats de s'exprimer sur le sujet de la greffe architecturale.
Le thème du concours 2008-2009 échappe au schéma traditionnel, il est ancré dans le patrimoine récent du XXe siècle et ouvre aux participants des perspectives de création intéressantes.
La ville de Latina en Italie
Cette ville nouvelle de 180 000 habitants, située à 50 kilomètres au sud de Rome, fut créée dans le mouvement urbanistique italien des années 1930, après l'assèchement de marécages
La personnalité de la ville tiens à son écriture architecturale marquée du style des années 30, mais surtout à son étonnante homogénéité. Le plan d'urbanisme et le bâti s'harmonisent merveilleusement autour de principes esthétiques clairs et des valeurs sociales qui prévalaient en Italie dans la première moitié du XXe siècle. Le parcours historique allant de la piazza del Quadrato à la piazza della Liberta illustre bien la volonté de style qui a inspiré la conception, et qui au fil du temps a subsisté.
