Depuis 14 ans, la Fondation Wilmotte favorise la rencontre du patrimoine et de la création contemporaine à travers l’organisation du Prix W. Elle aide les jeunes architectes en organisant tous les deux ans un concours qui permet de les accompagner et de les sensibiliser à l'importance de la greffe architecturale.
Description
La Fondation d'entreprise Wilmotte a pour objectif de favoriser la rencontre du patrimoine et de la création architecturale. Dans le cadre du concours de cette année, elle propose de revaloriser un site industriel en perte de fonction par la reconversion de bâtiments existants et l'ajout de constructions contemporaines, afin de le réintégrer dans le tissu urbain de l'une des plus belles villes au monde.Pour son concours biannuel, la Fondation d'entreprise Wilmotte a choisi le site de l'Ex Piazza d'Armi sur l'île de St Elena à Venise, un site industriel du XXème siècle, utilisé en tant que chantier naval pour la société ACTV, l'exploitant des transports publics navals de Venise, les célèbres « Vaporetto ».
Ce concours donne la possibilité de réinventer le bâtiment sur eau typique de Venise en tant que habitat moderne, social et accessible. Le projet a pour objectif l'implantation d'un programme de logements (environ 70%), et de studios d'artistes avec atelier et d'espaces d'exposition (environ 30 %). La taille des logements est laissée à la discrétion du (ou des) participant(s), pouvant varier du studio au Loft.
Selon la volonté de la ville de Venise, 20 % environ des logements sera à concevoir sous forme de co-housing social, une initiative née dans les années 60 au Danemark, sous forme de construction participative avec mixité des générations et accessible aux handicapés, comprenant des parties communes (lieux de rencontre, loisirs, services, espaces extérieurs crèche...). Dans sa forme actuelle, une attention particulière est donnée aux aspects du développement durable des constructions. Les habitants sont impliqués dans le processus de conception ainsi que dans le financement, et la gestion au quotidien. Plus qu'une reconversion architecturale et urbaine, ce concours a pour ambition de penser la Venise du XXIème siècle.
