The mission of the Los Angeles Center of Photography is to build a community of dedicated photographers and to strengthen the importance of photography as an art form. This is achieved by providing education, scholarships, grants, exhibits, public programs and events, focused programming for youth and low-income families, and community outreach.
Description
We are pleased to announce our Fourth Annual Street Shooting Around the World Exhibition! The exhibit will run from February 16 – March 16, 2018, with opening night reception scheduled for Friday, February 16, 7-10 pm, 2018. The theme is street shooting around the world. Juror, Gus Powell, will select between 40-50 images based on creativity, originality, and quality. In addition, another 50-60 images will be chosen for a virtual gallery display via LACP’s website. There is no limit to the amount of images which can be submitted.- Deadline for Submission: Thursday, December 28, 2017

- Framed prints (if accepted) due in gallery: Thursday, February 8, 2018
- Show Opening: Friday, February 16, 7-10 pm, 2018

The Prizes
1st Prize: $1,000 cash prize, plus an invitation to show your work during the STREET WEEK in LA weekend presentations (February 17 & 18, 2018).
This prize is awarded to the photographer with the best “body” of work. At least six images must be submitted.
(NOTE: To be eligible for the 1st place prize, you MUST submit at least SIX IMAGES.)
2nd Prize: $500 scholarship toward any LACP street class or travel street workshop. This prize is given to a single outstanding image.
Gus Powell was born in New York City in 1974 and attended Oberlin College where he majored in comparative religion. In 2003 he was selected to be in PDNs 30 under 30 issue and also published his first monograph, The Company of Strangers (J&L Books). His work has been exhibited internationally, including a solo show at The Museum of The City of New York and group exhibitions at The Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and FOAM, NL.
His photographs have been published in Aperture, Harpers, Vogue, M le mag – Le Monde, Wired, Fortune and W, and he has been a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine for a decade. He is a member of the street photographers’ collective In-Public and is faculty in the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department at the School of Visual Arts, NY.
His work is included in the books Bystander: A World History of Street Photography and Street Photography Now. Powell’s second monograph, The Lonely Ones(J&L Books 2015), was inspired by the work of William Steig and is a return to his earlier practice of using image and text together.
Eligibility
This exhibit is open internationally to both amateurs and professionals.
The deadline to send digital files for consideration is Thursday, December 28, 2017 by midnight PST. There is no limit to the amount of images which can be submitted.
