The Lumen Prize is a global award and tour for digital art.
Description
What we doThe Lumen Prize for Digital Art celebrates the very best art created with technology through a global competition, exhibitions and events worldwide.
A not-for-profit based in Wales, UK, Lumen’s annual juried competition draws entries from artists globally and has given away more than US$50,000 in prize money since its launch in 2012.
More than a competition
Since its first show in London’s Cork Street back in 2013, Lumen has staged more than 40 exhibitions in venues across Asia, Europe and the US, as well as seminars, workshops and lectures. We work with a wide range of partners to create new audiences and opportunities for artists’ work, such as commissions, acquisitions, exhibitions and speaking engagements.
How we work with artists
Once an artist is selected for Lumen’s longlist or becomes a finalist or prizewinner, he or she becomes part of the Lumen family and eligible for a range of opportunities from that year forward. For example, a number of Lumen Prize artists from the early years of the competition have now seen their work collected by museums. Others have benefited from commission and exhibition opportunities through the Lumen partner network.
How we work with venues
Lumen works with galleries, museums and festivals to curate shows that fit the theme and goals of our partners. For 2018, we have an interactive, family-friendly exhibition at Eureka! The National Museum for Children, which includes coding workshops for children. We also put on shows for contemporary art venues that highlight the latest trends in art created with technology, including artificial intelligence, augmented reality and generative work. Engaging the wide range of our artists’ creativity, we aim to push the boundaries of how art is enjoyed and viewed globally.
A bit of background…
Lumen was founded by Carla Rapoport, a financial journalist who moved into arts management in 2010. Lumen is owned by Lumen Projects Ltd, a not-for-profit company registered in Wales, United Kingdom.
We are always eager to hear from new partners as well as venues or festivals with an interest in what we do. Please contact us at info@lumenprize.com to start the ball rolling.
