THE BRAND
Fondation d’Entreprise Bénéteau is a corporate foundation established in January 2005. In December 2009, the Foundation’s objectives were restated in its by-laws:
-
To encourage and promote environmental protection in the boating, construction and housing sectors through innovative projects, research and the development of new professions contributing to creativity and innovation in these sectors.
-
To protect and showcase naval heritage.
-
To raise public awareness of environmental protection issues, particularly in the boating
world.
-
To identify factors that may encourage the development of new boating practices and new
kinds of housing in France and in Europe; promoting them and measuring how well they are received.
Inspired by the values of its founder: Bénéteau SA, the Foundation works to promote the influence and reputation of the pleasure boating and leisure homes sectors, encouraging the development of professions that contribute to them.
During its 13-year history (2005-2018), the Fondation d’Entreprise Bénéteau has supported over 40 initiatives around the world. It intends to pursue its existing initiatives and invest in new projects in future years.
Every year, the Foundation invites students from several schools to participate in a non-profit competition as a way of introducing them to the professional world which they aspire to join.
BACKGROUND
Outdoor tourism is the leading form of tourism in France. Over 29 million people spend their holidays on campsites each year. There are over 8000 campsites hosting holidaymakers throughout France.
One of the key challenges for the outdoor accommodation sector in the coming years will be to instil a culture of environmental protection in hospitality business owners. There are already many initiatives, including certifications and charters, as well as more individual commitments and a general increased awareness.
This situation raises questions about how these valuable holiday solutions are integrated into our landscapes. Be it at the seaside, in the mountains or in the countryside, campsites have been built as they have developed, equipping them with various types of accommodation and services: tents, caravans, mobile homes, water parks, restaurants, shops, etc. They have become little towns in their own right, offering a self-sufficient existence. They have developed over 25 years, raising the question of harmony within the sites and with their environment.
THE CHALLENGE
To offer environmentally-friendly solutions for landscape design and the way life is organised within the campsite.
THE TARGET
Holidaymakers. Keen to spend their holidays in a pleasant environment, having chosen a holiday that is close to nature;
Local authorities. Keen to ensure the integration of businesses in their area and responsible towards their electors for preventing visual pollution and untidiness;
Fédération de l’hôtellerie de plein air [outdoor tourism federation]. An organisation with a shared ambition to respect the environment, which issues good practice guidelines to its members;
Public authorities. Informed and committed decision-makers who determine the framework and authorisations based on more or less restrictive legal texts.
GOALS
To promote environmental protection.
To participate in the harmonious development of our territories.
To share our goal of spreading the word with a new generation of talent.
To offer, in the next 5 years, environmentally-friendly planning solutions for the top tourist destination in France: the campsite.
APPROACHES
Several approaches could be explored which will then be conceptualised with diagrams, charts, etc. On this occasion you may discuss the features or work of a landscape designer or architect.
