Competition InformationThe Paphos Beach Shelter Competition is open to architects, students of architecture, recent graduates, and associated disciplines from around the world, during the European Capital of Culture - Paphos 2017.
CYSOA is looking to demonstrate designs for a modular canopy system that can be deployed on beaches to provide shelter from the sun (from June - August the average temperature is between 27.7 to 30.4°C). The winning design will be constructed on Geroskipou Municipality Beach, with a view to rolling the design out across other beaches in the area.
The essential programmatic need is to provide a canopy or other form of shelter from the sun, however additional programs, material concerns, and aesthetic results should be decided by individual participants.
